Nota Baloyi criticises DJ Shimza for staying silent on DJ Warras’ killing
Nota Baloyi has publicly criticised DJ Shimza for not acknowledging the death of DJ Warras, who was tragically shot in Johannesburg on 16 December 2025.
Since the news broke, social media has seen an outpouring of tributes from fans, colleagues, and industry figures. However, Nota expressed disappointment over Shimza’s silence, suggesting that the late DJ Warras had played a significant role in his career.
On X, Nota wrote: “Shimza tweeting about everything under the sun but won’t even post a tributary post in honour of the very DJ Warras that put him on primetime radio… There’s no friends or family in the DJ industry.”
The remarks sparked debate online, with many defending Shimza, arguing that grief is personal and cannot be measured by public posts.
- “It is not fair for you to coerce them into posting what suits you. You have posted for your side and it really is enough,” one user wrote.
- “Don’t be like that. Just because he’s not tweeting or posting about him doesn’t mean he’s not hurt. People grieve differently,” added another.
The conversation highlights differing perspectives on how public figures express mourning, especially in the fast-moving landscape of social media.
The situation between Nota and DJ Shimza has further escalated due to their long-standing feud.
Previously, the two were involved in legal disputes, with Shimza taking the outspoken music executive to court months ago. In the latest development, reports indicate that Shimza’s lawyer has seized over R400,000 from Nota’s personal bank account.
The seizure is reportedly linked to comments Nota made during an eNCA exposé involving the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development, Mmamoloko Kubayi.
