DJ Warras, born Warrick Stock, had openly engaged in conversations about death on social media just weeks before he was fatally shot in Johannesburg on 16 December 2025, a revelation that has since left many South Africans deeply unsettled.
The popular radio personality, TV presenter and podcaster, who had recently celebrated his 40th birthday, became the focus of renewed online discussion after old posts from November resurfaced following confirmation of his death.
In one exchange on X that many now find haunting, a user told him, “We are gonna miss you, dawg, RIP in advance.” DJ Warras replied, “It’s been real fam. Thanks for everything. I hope you have been entertained.”
That interaction gained fresh attention on the day of his killing after another user reshared it with the caption, “The power of the tongue,” igniting widespread debate about words, fate and whether moments like these carry deeper meaning.
In addition, in the days leading up to his death, DJ Warras had spoken candidly about crime and personal safety in Johannesburg. On Reconciliation Day, he shared thoughts touching on thieves and guns, while other posts suggested how alert and guarded he remained while moving around the city.
Following the confirmation of his passing, social media was flooded with tributes and emotional reactions from fans and fellow South Africans who admired his bold personality and unfiltered voice. As a result, many found themselves revisiting his past words with a sense of unease.
Reacting to the resurfaced posts, one user wrote, “This thread… yoh! Words are powerful. We must rebuke bad things. RIP DJ Warras.” Another added, “The tongue is a weapon. Hateful words can’t kill directly, but they can summon chaos that does.”
